Making the Case for What Matters Most

Alexis Wolson is the Founder and Principal of Powerful Prose, a consulting firm that helps mission-driven organizations strengthen fundraising through clear strategy and persuasive communication. Her work focuses on turning strong programs into compelling cases for support, aligning fundraising priorities with how funders think, give, and evaluate impact.

Across her career, she has helped organizations secure more than $300 million in philanthropic support, bringing both strategic and frontline perspective to fundraising. She has led advancement and communications efforts across major institutions and regional nonprofits, including the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Miami, the Nature Conservancy, and Philabundance.

Across this work, a consistent pattern has shaped her approach: strong programs are not always clearly or convincingly presented, and that gap directly affects funding outcomes. Through Powerful Prose, she works with organizations to clarify their priorities, strengthen their positioning, and develop proposals, cases for support, and donor communications that are built to resonate.

She also serves as a Lecturer at New York University’s School of Professional Studies, where she teaches writing and fundraising strategy.
